Spoilers-Watched the film without knowing anything about it. It’s best not to even watch the Trailer. Just get Wrecked and watch it.
The story of a man who finds himself at the bottom of a ravine in a wrecked car. His leg is pinned under the dashboard. A man is dead in the back seat, and another person is dead not too far away in the woods.
Who is he and how did he get here? More importantly, how does he get his leg free from the wreckage?
Wrecked is pretty much a one man show. There are about five other actors who make occasional appearances,, but the bulk of the story is Adrien trying to get free, trying to get out of the woods, trying to remember who he is and how he came to be seat-belted in an old car in the middle of nowhere.
Adrien Brody is brilliant as the tortured and broken man. His struggles are made more poignant as he hears a news report on the fading radio that three men are wanted for robbing a bank and killing a teller and guard. While struggling to get free, he finds a gun. While searching the body in the back seat he finds an ID that matches the name of one of the bank robbers. He asks the dead man if they were friends in one of the handful of spoken lines.
The man suffers a number of hallucinations and we can never be sure that what we are seeing is really happening. Is he a killer bank robber? He has flashbacks where he is robbing the bank and shooting a woman who appears to be haunting him. Soon a dog joins him on his struggle for survival.
The tension level is pretty intense and there were countless times I found myself thinking-what would I do in this situation? How would I get a stuck car door open or free a trapped limb? The suspense lies in keeping us guessing every moment as to what happened and how.
Christopher Dodd has written a tight and interesting screenplay. I really liked Wrecked, even though I was left with a few unanswered questions as to the nature of reality in Adrien Brody’s mind.
Wreckedwas a really good movie.
