It’s All About You, Jerry, Isn’t It?

The Annual Dallas Cowboys Rant. Kyle Orton Plays Like a $100 Million Dollar Quarterback. Much like regular Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, Kyle Orton did a great job of raising fans hopes only to dash them to the ground with a game ending interception. This was another game where it looked like the Cowboys had a chance to win it, but as they have so often in the past few years, they were able snatch defeat from the jaws of victory once more. To be honest, my passion for the Dallas Cowboys isn’t what it was a few years back.…

Skyfall

James Bond is an old man now.  M is an even older woman.  The good old days of being a spy are gone.  Super Villains just aren’t what they used to be. Skyfall wasn’t too bad, it just wasn’t too great either.  The film opens with a car chase and then has about a five minute long opening credits.  I honestly can’t remember the last time I saw opening credits on a movie.  It was one of countless little flashbacks to the good old days of Bond films. James Bond may be old, but he is standard issue Bond-James Bond. …

Albert Nobbs

Glenn Close plays a woman pretending to be a man so that she could get a job and then just kind of never stopped pretending.  Like Yentl, this is a story set in the bad old days when a woman couldn’t expect much out of life.  And, also like Yentl, this was a film that didn’t make much sense. Jonathan Dixon is an old man of 38 when he decides that he is tired of wandering aimlessly through life.  The path before him has become clear.  He wants to be a Chef and the best way to get there runs through the Culinary Institute of America. For the most part, the CIA is a place for the honing of skills and the refining of talents. Those that sign up without any practical experience in a working kitchen find it all a bit overwhelming.  Being a Professional Chef is not for everyone. Beaten, Seared, and Sauced: On Becoming a Chef…

How To Write a Post Apocalyptic Story

Apocalyptic fiction is a sub-genre of science fiction that is concerned with the end of civilization either through nuclear war, plague, or some other general disaster. Post-apocalyptic fiction is set in a world or civilization after such a disaster. The time frame may be immediately after the catastrophe, focusing on the travails or psychology of survivors, or considerably later, often including the theme that the existence of pre-catastrophe civilization has been forgotten (or mythologized). –Wikipedia You start with one Main Character who has either lost everyone and everything they care about, or who soon will lose everyone and everything they…
