Songza

Back when I was in High School New Wave music was all the rage and there was a New Wave version of the Rolling Stone’s Mother’s Little Helper. This was a song that I heard a handful of times and than never heard again. Until I found Songza the other day.

A quick Google let me find out that this Rolling Stone cover was preformed by a group called Polyphonic Size. I still like this song. The clipped words and techno sound fit nicely with the old lyrics. Ok, so this isn’t exactly like finding an old Beatles recording in a trashcan, but it was quick and easy to find a song I had all but forgotten.

There was some news the other day about the recording industry loosing money yet again last year and how they are blaming the usual suspects of file sharing pirates. I’m not so sure. In the good old days if you wanted to hear a song, you had to buy the single or wait for it to come on the radio again. Now you can play a song online whenever you want, if not with Songza or one of the other online music players than with YouTube. Like a free refill at a fastfood place-why buy the large when you can just refill the small? Why buy a song when they are free for the listen online?

Songza is not just old songs you never heard of either, you can find the current number one songs here as well. Not than anyone cares about the Billboard charts the way they used to. But I like the old songs you never heard of. The music industry is just going to have to change, and no one likes change.

In the meantime, sites like Songza are great for those earworms that you can’t get out of your head. You can also listen to the top songs that everyone else is listening to or make up your own playlists. Songza is a great little site that is easy to use. If you haven’t given it a shot, think of song you haven’t heard in a while and see if they have it.
