New Bohemians Keyboard Man Shot Dead

Thirty-four year old Jeffrey Albrecht, keyboard man for the Dallas rock band Edie Brickell & New Bohemians was shot dead while trying to kick in the door of his girlfriend’s neighbor. It is not clear why he was trying to kick the door down or why killing him seemed the thing to do to stop him. Of course, in Texas, is not uncommon to hear about psycho drunks being shot while trying to get into the wrong house.
The New Bohemians were a small indie rock band in Dallas in 1980s. They were your standard One Hit Wonders with the 1989 song What I Am, from the album Shooting Rubber bands at The Stars. This turned them from a nice friendly local band, into SuperStars that couldn’t be bothered to talk to the local press or sign autographs while they were out and about. There seemed to be the standard creative differences in the band, as they went from The New Bohemians, to Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians, to just plain old Edie Brickell.
After several years of not have another hit like What I Am, the group reformed to release a new album, Stranger Things, in 2006. This CD failed to produce a hit as well, but it did serve to remind anyone that cared that the band was still around.
Jeffery Albrecht was not an orginal memeber of the New Bohemians, joining the band in 1999. He had played with Paul Simon before becoming a New Bohemian. Paul Simon has been Edie Brekell’s husband since 1992. Albrecht had his own Dallas band called Sorta. He also played with Texan guitarist Charlie Sexton.
