“It is not hard to understand modern art. If it hangs on a wall it’s a painting, and if you can walk around it it’s a sculpture.”
Tom Stoppard
A lot of modern furniture has an art like quality to it. The open spaces and the placement of the bed and dresser that are on display to be admired. You can almost hear a bit of Mozart wafting around in the background. It’s hard to know what is really modern any more and what is just a re-imagining of the past. People had this odd habit of naming everything modern and contemporary a few years ago. Maybe they just thought they had reached the end of what Modern Man could achieve.
There is something fresh and appealing about modern furniture, the simple lines and the elegant designs have a Zen quality about them. Simply, simply. Modern Dining Sets with glass table tops and straight back chairs. Long and clean modern buffets. Designer modern curio cabinets to house all you objects d’art. Maybe a few pieces of minimalist modern art would fit the bill.
I really think the living room would be the place to show off your best taste in modern furniture. There are chairs and sofas in many Modern Art Museums, and for good reasons. There is a lot of freedom in modern design, from simple straight lines to organic flowing shapes. From black and white to blindingly bright colors that will definitely make a statement. Modern designers have made today’s modern furniture some of the most interesting furniture ever.
