Following in the footsteps of the likes of The Beatles and Sting, as well as 598 other worthy individuals this year, Terry Pratchett has become a Member of The Order of the British Empire. Sir Terry , 60, best known for his hugely popular Discworld series of comic fantasy novels, has sold more than 55 million books worldwide.
A few years ago there was an Alzheimer’s study of a bunch of nuns. This study seemed show that the nuns who wrote long and detailed diaries lived had less of a risk of getting Alzheimer’s than those that kept short diaries. So I have always thought I might be a bit off the hook-as I tend to ramble on a bit. So I was a bit shocked to see that Terry Pratchett has been diagnosed with a rare form of early-onset Alzheimer’s disease-it’s hard to image a more detailed form of writing than the complex and intricate world of the Discworld. Terry Pratchett has since campaigned to raise awareness of the condition.
I hope that Terry Pratchett feels well enough to keep writing and that he gets to enjoying be a Knight for years to come. I also hope that his efforts to fund research on Alzheimer’s leads to some breakthroughs that help to stop this horrible disease. To make your own donation go to the Alzheimer’s Research Trust.
