One of the most memorable bits from the movie Fargo was the way everyone talked. You know, eh? Like they’re all from the great white north, aye? They did this pretty well in the film as I recall, it seems a little off on FX’s Fargo. But there’s so much wild and crazy stuff going on, it’s just one more bit wierdness.
The main stars are Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman. It’s a bit jarring to hear Watson talk like he’s from Bemidji, but it’s fun. He’s basically George McFly before he became a man. Here he gets bullied and has had enough. Which bring us to Billy Bob Thornton’s amazing nutcase of a hitman. Billy Bob meets Martin and a casual conversation leads to murder.
The heroes of the show are the mostly bumbling cops and one woman police officers who is clearly head and shoulders above the rest. She brings to mind the tagline of Prairie Home Companion-the women are strong, the men are good looking, and the children are above average-well, except for the men being good looking and the children being above average.
Fargo is a violent show, but it is also funny and twisted. I like it. In one amazing scene the Hitman drag someone through a crowded office by his necktie-and no one does more than watch him drag the guy by. Then there are a couple of other Hitmen who pick up someone by mistake-and kill him anyway.
These are not nice people. It’s more disturbing because they keep telling us this is based on Actual Events. Wow, Fargo is a tough neighorhood.
