And now, the end is near
And so I face the final curtain
Elvis Presley, My Way
Thirty years ago today, Elvis Presley, The King of Rock and Roll, died at his fabled home Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee. But rather than use a picture of Elvis Presley, I have used a picture of Bruce Campbell pretending to be Elvis Presley. While fans of the real Elvis Presley line up outside of Graceland to pay their respects, my thoughts lean toward Elvis Presley after he ate his last Peanut butter, Bacon, and Banana Sandwich.
When Elvis Presley died in 1977, almost at once the rumors started that he wasn’t really dead, just tied of being The King. So Elvis has showed up in Death Becomes Her, Bubba Ho Tep, and way too many Nicholas Cage movies. Tabloid sightings of Elvis are legend. He makes a cameo in the song Walking in Memphis as a ghost, just as he did in the indie film Mystery Train. The Cartoon Network’s Johnny Bravo is a blond Elvis. Paul Simon’s Graceland is arguably his best album ever. There are a ton of Elvis Presley Ringtones, if your into that kind of thing. The Once and Future King is a classic Sci Fi story of how Elvis wasn’t really Elvis. This is just the stuff off the top of my head. Elvis is everywhere.
They are working on prequel to Bubba Ho Tep called Bubba Nosferatu and the Curse of the She-Vampires.
Elvis Presley, Graceland, and oh yeah, a few songs will live forever.
