Rusty Steps an HDR Image

I’ve been reading After Capture magazine since the folks at Rangerfinder Magazine starting publishing it. It’s a good magazine with a lot of cool images and geez whiz advice on image manipulation. One of the things that I was really taken with were the High Dynamic Range Images. The basic idea is that you find a subject, anything you like really, and them make a series of bracketed exposures using a tripod. Go from slightly over exposed to slight under exposed. Then you can use the Merge to HDR feature in Photoshop or use one of the stand alone HDR…

Rene Magritte Paintings

René François Ghislain Magritte (21 November 1898 – 15 August 1967) was a Belgian surrealist artist. He became well-known for a number of witty and thought-provoking images.-Wikipedia To be honest I was always more impressed with the works of M.C. Escher, but when you look around and try to find other artists like Escher, Rene Magritte is a name that often pops up. Rene Magritte paintings have that slightly out of whack quality that all surrealist images have. Rene Magritte paintings don’t quite have the same level of skill and talent as surrealist Master Salvidor Dali. I always got the…

Hot Springs Bath House

Hot Springs is one of those places that I like to visit from time to time. Not too far from home, lots of cool stuff to do, and the water really does taste pretty damned good. Last time I was there I took a lot of photos that I am still sorting through and looking at and thinking about. I try to sell my fine art prints on DeviantArt, though most of my images are not all that deviant. DeviantART is a fun place to post images and I almost always get some kind of response. Good for the old…

Buy My Fine Art Print Nantucket Lighthouse

Nantucket Lighthouse It was a cold and rainy day on the island of Nantucket when I took this photograph. We had caught one of the later ferries in the day. Now we only had a couple of hours to roam around before the whole place shut down and we had to board a boat back to the mainland. It was fun place. Lots of old houses and lots of stuff about whaling. Brand Point Lighthouse is a small building and yet it is like all lighthouses in that it is a cool place to visit.Clicking on the image takes you…

Buy My Fine Art Print Two Windows

Two Windows DeviantART.com is one of the many homes of fine art online. If you want to buy some of my fine art photographic prints, that is the place you’ll find them. This image is another image from the San Antonio Missions. Many of the rooms are in ruins and make wonder subjects for a fine art canvas print. It is always best to look for strong shadows and high contrast when shooting in infrared, as this fine art image shows.I use a digital camera, a tripod and an infrared filter on the front of the lens. I have a…

Micheal Kalish -License to Sample

Micheal Kalish was featured on CBS Sunday Morning today. He’s a young artist who uses old car license plates to make art. He does some original work, such as groupings of metal flowers and US maps. But he is most famous for his portraits and this is where I have a problem with him. These are not his portraits. In music they call it sampling when you steal someone else’s music and drop into a song and call it your own. Micheal Kalish has sampled images from the greatest photographers and illustrators in history to make his art. Does he…
