“It’s special just to be a part of this. The best feeling by far is that the organization, the Jones family, our coaches and everyone say, ‘Hey, you’re our guy. You’re the guy we want to go to the next level with. We want to get back to the Super Bowl around here and win these things.’ That means everything, more than the money ever could.” -Tony Romo
The latest hero in the Dallas Cowboys ongoing saga is Quarterback Tony Romo. He is the savior that has brought the team back from the brink of despair and propelled them to a 6-1 record on the season. The Dallas Cowboys didn’t play this week, so there should not have been a lot of news on the Dallas Cowboys front. But Jerry Jones knows how to get the medias attention better than any NFL Owner in history. No game to play? No problemo.
First there was a little trip Tony Romo took to L.A. where he reported went on date with the mother of all lowlifes, Britney Spears. Britney Spears is not the first Pop Tart that our Hero has gone out with, dating is too strong a word as it implies more than one date. If only he could has been seen with Paris Hilton on the same trip it would have been the perfect weekend in the Land of Fruits and Nuts. This was an interesting story. Lots of blog buzz on it.
But that was so Monday. Tuesday Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys NFL Owner Extraordinarie, finally signed Tony Romo to a long term contract. The local radio gurus have been having a field day with Jerry for not signing the team’s savior to a long term deal, and now, in a slow Cowboys News week, he has signed Tony Romo. Just a little deal worth $67.5-million over six years.
“You can either do this or you can’t,” Tony Romo said. “I didn’t know if I could, but I put myself in position to succeed.”
So now that Tony Romo is worth 67 million dollars, does he have to take the Cowboys to a Superbowl to justify the layout of so much cash? Can there be a justification for paying anyone so much money to play a sport? Of course, he’s not just some schmuck like A-Rod, he’s the real deal. He’s going to be worth it.
I wonder if he’ll have any time to play football while he’s making all those commercials?
