Yes I’m lonely wanna die
Yes I’m lonely wanna die
If I ain’t dead already
Ooh girl you know the reason why.
The Beatles-Yer Blues
The Beatles album named The Beatles, and known by almost everyone as The White Album, has some of the best and weirdest songs The Fab Four ever recorded. This is not so much a rock album as a collection random musings by four men that could record virtually anything and have it sell a gazillion copies. There are good solid songs here, like Back in the USSR and Ob-la-de, Ob-la-da.
My personal favorites on the Beatles only double album are Honey Pie and Don’t Pass Me By, but really I love this whole album. I have even been known to listen to John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Revolution Number 9, it is very interesting with a good set of headphones. Among the other oddities here are such classics as Why Don’t We Do It In The Road? and Everybody Has Something To Hide Except For Me And Monkey.
The White Album has it’s depressing side as well, with songs like Yer Blues, Cry Baby Cry, and Blackbird. Of course, The Beatles started early in their careers with songs as Yesterday and Eleanor Rigby to get in touch with their inner manic depressives. Which is one of the reasons I have always loved The Beatles. Hey, if the bloody Beatles can whine about stuff, so can I.
Helter Skelter is the other song on The White Album that will always be remember for inspiring the madness of Charles Manson. But really, that’s just a footnote, The White Album is an amazing collection of music.
But as far as depressing Beatles songs go, I do think Yer Blues takes the cake.
